Cheese bread

I first saw this recipe posted on a forum and have later read that the recipe comes from the polish doctor Jan Kwasniewski. You can use these cheese breads to make hamburgers, pizza or eating them with a topping.

I made 9 small breads. If you are going to use them for mini pizzas I recommend making them larger.

cheesebread

Ingredients:

3 eggs
80-100 grams (2.8 – 3.5 ounces) shredded cheese
150 grams (5.3 ounces) cottage cheese or philadelphia
spices (I use a mix of basil, oregano and thyme)

Separate the eggs. Mix egg yolks, cottage cheese and spices with a hand blender. Add the shredded cheese.

Stiff beat the egg whites. Carefully fold the egg yolk mix into your stiff beaten egg whites.

Put your cheese breads on an oven pan with a table spoon and put them in the oven for about 20 minutes at 180 degrees C (356 degrees F)

Don’t get this recipe. Cottage cheese OR philadelphia spices (????). In other words you can either use cottage cheese or a combo of spices? Doesn’t sound right.
Also, isn’t it possible to list the amount needed in measurements we all are acquainted with in the states, like cups? 5.3 ounces is what? 2/3 of a cup? Or is that by weight? I guess translating grams and centigrade into American-eze isn’t that simple so I can understand that. Too bad the USA is not on the same page as the rest of the world — I much prefer grams. Easier to measure.

You use either cottage cheese or philadelphia in the recipe. I tend to use cottage cheese, but I have heard others say they get better results with Philadelphia cream cheese.
Spices is on a new line. Maybe I should have called it herbs. I add some herbs as well to give it a better taste.

I am not from the states, so I thought you used ounces (oz) when you weigh your ingredients. That is why I used the google calculator to convert it from grams to ounces. Since these ingredients are measured with a kitchen scale, they cannot be converted to cups without measuring them again. That is because cup is a volume measurement while grams is a weight measurement. So 1/4 cup of cottage cheese is about 60 grams, while 1/4 cup of something else may be 100 grams.

Please let me know if it helps as I’ve tried to convert the ingredients to a measurement that is familiar for US people. If not I can measure them again in dl which can be converted to cups.

Lena – Most people in the States don’t weigh their ingredients, but rather use the cup, teaspoon, tablespoon measurements. It’s not your fault – besides, any good cook can figure it out. Also, most people just call it cream cheese (I never use Philadelphia brand because they don’t offer an organic version).

Thanks for the recipe! I can’t wait to try it, as I don’t eat gluten. I’m also Polish, so I can imagine this might be right up my alley!

        Hi Linda.

Thanks for your reply. I am from Norway myself, so I am not that familiar with how things work out in the American homes. Maybe I should consider getting some cups since most of the traffic is from the US. Though I haven’t posted any updates here in a long time as I got busy with other online projects.

Actually I have been wondering if the original of this recipe came from Poland. Are you familiar with the polish Dr Kwasniewski?
